About Blaxland Veterinary Clinic
Blaxland Veterinary Clinic is a fully equipped small animal hospital established in 1988 by owner Erica Maclean. The practice was started with the aim of providing high quality medical and surgical facilities for pets in the lower Blue Mountains and surrounding communities. Our clinic has been the winner of multiple local business awards and we have been runners up many times as well.
We offer a full range of services that include orthopaedic, soft tissue, surgery, digital radiology, ultrasound, dentistry, in house pathology and much more. Our clinic also provides services for the wildlife in the Blue Mountains area. We accept and treat injured wildlife such as possums and birds before we pass them on to Wires if they can be rehabilitated and released.
Our dedicated vet nurses Erin and Carol run a puppy preschool every Tuesday night which is very popular. We also provide spacious cat boarding and a cat adoption center. Feel free to phone with an inquiry any time to speak to one of our friendly and experienced staff members.
The clinic also has on site parking with disability access.

Veterinarian / Practice owner
Erica Graduated from Sydney University in 1983 and worked at a number of practices until opening Blaxland Vet Clinic in 1988.
At home, Erica has many four legged friends including three standard poodles and four cats... Oh yes, and four grown up children, not all at home anymore. There are also two horses, one of which is her daughters, which helps with a keen riding interest when not at the vet clinic. She also enjoys walking the dogs and skiing.
Having graduated from Sydney University in 1992, Craig worked in Canberra and East Maitland before returning to the university to complete a small animal internship. He then worked in the UK for four years, returning to work at St Mary's until starting at Blaxland Veterinary Clinic in 2005.
Outside of work Craig enjoys sport and the Blue Mountains with his family.
Melanie started at Blaxland Veterinary Clinic as a work experience nurse at the end of 2005. She then commenced working as a Veterinary Nurse mid-2006. She has also worked as a kennel hand at the Veterinary Specialist Centre and SASH.
Prior to being a vet nurse, Melanie was a Registered Nurse working in England, Switzerland and Australia. Melanie has also worked at the Fisheries Department in Cronulla after completing a Bachelor of Science in Marine Biology in 1994.
Her favorite past times are bush walking, indoor rock climbing and she also volunteers with a couple of charities.
At weekends the clinic cat Albie stays with Melanie so that he can have a run around outside and watch the birds from the window.
Carol holds a Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing, she started working at Blaxland Vet Clinic in 2002 and is also a local, having grown up in the Blue Mountains.
She has a keen interest in dog behavior and training and along with Erin, runs the Puppy Preschool classes. She loves the opportunity to show clients the bond they can build with their puppies by understanding their behavior and implementing training techniques.
At home she has five dogs, a cat and two horses and in her spare time, with her husband, she breeds, trains and competes in Obedience and Retrieving Trials with their Labradors. She has also been involved in the film industry with the dogs, working on TV commercials and the occasional stage performance.
Carol also trains and competes in Dressage & Working Equitation with her horses.
Raised on an acreage in Castlereagh, Erin grew up always having pets of some description, small and large. She had great communication, love and understanding with her pets.
After finishing high school she got part time work at Emu Plains whilst studying Veterinary Nursing at Richmond TAFE. She had a break from nursing after completing her studies, but found she missed animals and the fast paced, challenging work environment. Luckily at that time Blaxland Vet Clinic was looking for a nurse and nearly fourteen years later Erin hasn’t moved on. Partly due to an understanding employer and great work colleagues, but also in the time she has been there the patients and clients have become her extended family.
Over the years working at Blaxland Erin started a family of her own with a lovely man Todd; resulting in two beautiful children, Lorelei and Seth, who also love and understand animals. She loves living in the mountains and enjoys the lifestyle it brings.
George started working at Blaxland Veterinary Clinic in 2014. He is currently studying Information Technology at Macquarie University and working part time at the clinic during his studies.
Albie was found on Glenmore Park golf course in November of 2013, he has been the clinic cat ever since. His favourite things are food, and going to his holiday home at Melanie's place on the weekend.
Albie is loved by all of the staff at Blaxland Veterinary clinic, except when he breaks into bags of food.
